With the ubiquitous food porn circulating our instagrams and facebook feeds (of which I am criminal), these photos are a refreshing take on not just the food we eat but also the people who, we sometimes forget, eat it and prepare it. The photojournalist, Penny De Los Santos, says of one of her editors who sent her on assignment to Peru for only her second food photo expedition, “He was like, ‘It’s the same thing this time, look for moments, look for light, tell a story and keep an eye out for the food.’”

I need to do get back into yoga. I always forget how an hour of it in the morning always refreshed me back into the steady rhythm of life. It grounded me. And centered me. It’s true what the yogis say.

Also, I like this photographer: maxime ballesteros.

Who is interviewed, together with his girlfriend Jen Gilpin, fashion designer of Don’t Shoot the Messenger (they’re the perfect-you-want-to-barf couple), by Freundenvonfreunden.

This is a never before-released photo of many that Astrid Kirchherr took of the Beatles. It had just been confirmed that they had made a number one hit album so here they are, fresh fame virgins in Tenerife, on the cusp of Beatlemania and the ensuing stardom frenzy. She was able to get so close since she was their personal friend and dated their first bassist Stuart Sutcliffe. Tired of the years and years of people and people asking her for Beatle images, she has, at the age of 73, decided to sell her entire collection of Beatles-related photographs. Read the story here.

New Religion

This morning no sound but the loud
breathing of the sea. Suppose that under
all that salt water lived the god
that humans have spent ten thousand years
trawling the heavens for.
We caught the wrong metaphor.
Real space is wet and underneath,
the church of shark and whale and cod.
The noise of those vast lungs
exhaling: the plain chanting of monkfish choirs.
